RTS & Telex Touch the SKY in Italy

July 1, 2008

Press Contact: Helmut Seidl

Through CVE Milan, SKY Italy installed a complete multi-frame ADAM matrix intercom system complete with 6-character RTS keypanels and Telex wireless systems in their all-new Milan broadcast facility.

The new SKY satellite station has 6 studios and will employ 2500 people when construction is completed this year.

SKY knows that seamless communication is essential when running a broadcast operation that spans multiple studios and thousands of people, which is why they chose RTS and Telex.

RTS is rooted in the broadcast industry. Over 30 years ago, the first RTS Two-Wire Intercom system was designed to meet the fundamental communication needs of broadcasters. Since then, RTS has developed scalable systems that connect thousands of users across the globe in seamless, reliable matrices. RTS even won an Emmy for their contribution to the broadcast industry, and has been established as the communication standard in large and small broadcast networks across the globe.

With RTS RVON VoIP technology, SKY Milan is able to connect instantly with their facilities in Rome. In addition, they are able to interface with analog audio signals by using the new AIO-16 Analog I/O Card Kit for the ADAM matrix.

Utilizing a Time Division Multiplex (TDM) technique, the ADAM grows linearly as users are added; the system comes standard with newly-redesigned redundant high current power supplies, and the new redundant Ethernet master controllers, MCII-e, allowing for automatic changeover in the event of failure. The MCII-E master controller allows Ethernet connectivity between the ADAM intercom and a PC running AZedit programming software. It can support 32 simultaneous AZedit sessions via Ethernet and 3 sessions via serial.

ADAM is available with the widest variety of interface cards in the industry, which includes the AIO-16, AES-3, and RVON-16 VoIP interfaces. It also has a wide variety of cabling options, including RJ-11s, DB-9s, jack fields, and many others.

Installed directly into the ADAM matrix intercom system, the AIO-16 card gives 16 ports of audio IN and OUT plus individual data drivers for each port installed in the system. This doubles the amount of audio ports available from its predecessor the AIO-8. In addition, the AIO-16 supports connections up 2.2mi (3.5km) per port. The AIO-16 is hot swappable, allowing the user to insert the card and begin using it instantaneously.

SKY Italy is the only pay TV satellite broadcasting company in Italy and has more than 4 million paying customers. SKY is handling over 150 channels.
