Straubing, Germany, July 2023 – The history of Straubing's theater harks back to Roman times, when wooden stages were erected, and continued throughout the Middle Ages with school and amateur theaters. Its golden era arrived in the 19th century with the founding of theater societies and the establishment of the "Stadttheater". In 1952, the venue became a part of the "Zweckverband Niederbayerisches Städttetheater" or Lower Bavarian Municipal Theater Association. From 2005, the "Theater am Hagen" underwent a complete rebuild, morphing into a professional theater which hosts numerous ensembles from across the region.

After many decades of service, the management of the 320-seat Theater am Hagen in Straubing chose to upgrade its legacy stage manager system and all staff communications. The goal was to find an economical yet future-proof solution that would meet their high production standards, with an emphasis on intuitive and easy operation. Working with Robert Ernst, Managing Director of the local company TRE Professionelle Audiotechnik, and the theater's Technical Director Wolfgang Herrein, they opted for an intercom solution from RTS.

This versatile communications system is ideally suited for installation in theaters, churches, broadcasting and industrial facilities, among other performance venues. Five licensed configurations ensure the system meets budgetary constraints and specific installation requirements. In a compact 1RU enclosure, OMS offers a flexible and cost-effective multi-format solution that combines and processes DANTE, AES70, RVON, wired and wireless as well as digital and analog devices.

A wired DBP (Digital Beltpack) is available at the lighting control room's fixed location in the Gallery. The beltpack features four channels, can be powered by PoE+ (Power over Ethernet 802.3af and 802.3at) and is connected via OMNEO* IP technology. The hybrid design supports both digital partyline and matrix keypad modes. The stage management system, ticketing office, dressing rooms and lighting control are equipped with a total of four DKP and KP series intercoms.

Robert Ernst from TRE Professionelle Audiotechnik explains his decision in favor of RTS: "The new OMNEO Main Station shows great potential for theaters and other venues, as it is easy to operate and quickly installed. Together with the ROAMEO wireless system, it allows smooth communication, maximum flexibility and sustainability at a comparatively low investment for the customer."

After several months of intensive use, Wolfgang Herrein is still enthusiastic about the new intercoms: "The new stage management system from RTS quickly became part of our everyday lives. The handling is easy, the sound quality is excellent and the desired mobility is always guaranteed. All in all, a very reliable intercom system with which we are all very satisfied!".

OMNEO is an architectural approach for connecting devices over IP to exchange information, including audio content and device control. It is built upon multiple technologies, including IP and open public standards, to support the technologies of today — such as Audinate’s Dante™, AES67, AES70 and SMPTE ST 2110 — while evolving to support those of tomorrow.

OMNEO architecture is based on two main components: (1) an IP media transport solution that offers low-latency, high-quality, fully-synchronized multi-channel audio exchange; and (2) a robust control protocol that provides reliable, secure and highly scalable system control and monitoring for professional applications of all sizes – from a local board room to an intercontinental communications system.

OMNEO is fully compatible with Audinate's Dante™, AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30 for media transport. In addition, OMNEO has been designed to support emerging and future standards as they come to the market. The control solution in OMNEO is AES70 and is part of the OCA (Open Control Architecture) Ecosystem. It includes many features for flexibility, reliability, scalability and compatibility for today and tomorrow. OMNEO features many additional elements to ensure a complete and superior solution for the applications and products in which it is used, such as flexible networking topologies, optional encryption, optimized network performance and more.
