For its coverage of the relied MotoGP race series, broadcast specialist ONE TV relies on RTS intercoms. The recent race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, for Sky Italia, was no exception. Two fly rigs, both outfitted with RTS and supporting 24 cameras, were flown to Austria for the event. Contained in two standard air cargo containers, the system was designed and built by Professional Show, ONE TV’s parent company and Italy’s largest broadcast systems integrator, headquartered in Padua.

The ONE TV fly system is completely self-contained, including everything from production switcher and audio consoles to multiviewers, replay and graphics systems, and cameras – along with the RTS intercom system. Once on site, the entire production system can be connected and operational in less than two hours, providing a consistent, reliable infrastructure that can be relied upon through the demands of a MotoGP race weekend.
“Our two fly systems travel around the world, and this is the fourth year that they have been used by ONE TV and Sky Italia for the Austria race,” reports Fabio Veggiato, Sales Director with Professional Show. “Normally, an OB truck might be used for an event like this, but the logistical issues of the MotoGP season require a system that can be flown as cargo from one location to the next.”
The heart of the RTS system is the ADAM-M mid-size modular intercom matrix, providing 64 VoIP and analog channels along with 128 MADI channels. The matrix system allows seamless communication among technicians via eight KP 12 CLD keypanels, five DKP 16 CLD desktop keypanels, and four RP-1000 series keypanels from RTS. Stationary units are equipped with RTS MCP-90 gooseneck microphones, while mobile technicians utilize RTS PH-88 headsets.
The keys to successful deployment of the RTS intercom system during hectic race weekends are its flexibility and ease of installation. MADI enables easy integration with existing audio networks using standard cabling, and the entire system can be set up and taken down quickly, which can be critical when the system is flown from on a tight schedule from one event to the next.
From initial set-up, through practices, qualifying and the race itself, the RTS intercom system provided flawless communication among the technical crew.
